Program Description:

The Bengal Band places strong emphasis on individual musical awareness and enrichment. The Band provides this through giving the students opportunities to perform in various settings. The Band offers students various levels of music literature which is both engaging and challenging. The Band has been and will remain an active part of campus life and overall spirit!

The Band continually strives for excellence. Each individual member should develop and mature in character, loyalty, dependability, dedication, leadership and musical skills while substantially contributing to the success of the Band. We seek to enhance each member's school experience, and to provide each member with the best possible music education and band experience. We also strive to help develop character traits that will positively serve those members throughout their lives.

Band Director

Bio:

Cole Spengler is in his first year as Director of Bands at Somerset Academy Brooks. Mr. Spengler has spent the last few years teaching music in SAISD, teaching at Carroll ECEC, Cotton Academy, and the Advanced Learning Academy.

Mr. Spengler is a graduate of Texas State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in music education, with a focus on trumpet performance. While at Texas State, Mr. Spengler played in many ensembles including the Symphonic Winds, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, Salsa Del Rio, Bobcat Marching Band, and Bobcat Basketball Band.

Mr. Spengler's professional affiliations include TMEA, TBA, and Music Will. While not at work, Mr. Spengler performs in various ensembles around San Antonio including the San Antonio Community Wind Ensemble and the St. Mary's University Orchestra. Mr. Spengler also enjoys spending his free time being with family and playing Dungeons & Dragons with his friends.

Congratulations to our two percussionist who advanced to Area this season.  Their growth, hard work, and dedication to music was showcased at this year's Area E Auditions. Both students showed much growth from the previous year. We are proud of how Senior - Mack Segovia and Sophmore - Damion Trevino represented Somerset Academy Brooks.
